WA2 vs NT - Monday, October 1, 2007

First game nerves showed in the first half, and whilst we nearly scored with some great chances up front with Col and Cam, the misses added to the tension.

With the half time score locked at 0-0, the Black ducks retired to duck pond to rest from the oppressive heat.

The second half started at an inspired pace despite Squizzy being rested due to near death from heat exhaustion.

The Ducks new found strategy of belting the ball into the back of the net paid off with goals to Bunny, DD and a converted penalty stroke by Bunny.

Bunny had a day out being voted best player by both NT and WA players, then being awarded the “Duckhead of the Day” for refusing to believe that George Naylor was Indian.

Result: WA2 3 - NT 0

WA2 vs SA - Wednesday, October 3, 2007

Great 4 -2 win against last year's champions. SA were stunned when Bunny banged the first goal in after just 3 minutes and then coverted a stroke deep into the first half.
SA came back with a soft goal just before half time.

Our tight defence created many rebound opportunities with Razor providing a great outlet.
In the second half we continued to dominate. Northy took on the SA defence with a blistering run from the half way line to put in a terrific goal. He followed this up minutes later scooping a ball over the keeper after a short corner rebound.

Razor was voted best player by both SA and WA players.

Result: WA2 4 - SA 2

WA2 vs NSW3 - Thursday, October 4, 2007

Missed opportunities cost WA2 dearly. WA2 opened the scoring early in the first half with a converted penalty corner from Cameron.

WA2 dominated the game in just about every facet, but were unable to capitalise on our superior speed and fitness.

The NSW keeper kept them in the game, and they equalised from a corner with just 3 minutes to go.

Pugs was voted best player by both NSW and WA players.

Result: WA2 1 - NSW3 1

WA2 vs ACT - Friday, October 5, 2007

Our first trip to Brisbane produced another solid but unspectacular win. Three games in three days in the heat was always going to be a factor.

ACT opened the scoring first, but Cameron equalised soon after from a penalty corner. We continued to penetrate the circle and produced countless short corners.

Colin took on the ACT defence and drove an excellent goal just before half time.

Great goals in the second half to DeeDee and Bunny were both the result of long hits into the circle from Cameron.

Colin was voted best player by both ACT and WA players.

Result: WA2 4 - ACT 1

WA2 vs QLD3 - Sunday, October 7, 2007

Sadly our first loss against the undefeated Qld3.

Jenno arrived for his first game but Northy was rested through injury.

We totally dominated the first 15 minutes and played our best hockey of the tournament. But again we failed to capitalise on numerous penetrations into the circle.

Qld scored a relatively soft goal in each half.

Cam was voted best player by Qld and Bruce by WA players.

Result: WA2 0 - QLD3 2

WA2 vs QLD4 - Wednesday, October 10, 2007

Not one of our best games, but we managed to eek out a win and finish second on the table.

Again we created many opportunities, and scored mid-way in the 1st half through a Spike deflection. Qld4 equalised just before half time.

The second half was an arm-wrestle and a bit of panic started to creep in.
With 2 minutes left, we broke away from defence with an early ball to Bruce, then to Chris North at the top of the circle who banged a great goal past the keeper to the rapturous applause of spectators in the stand.

Next game is the semi-final against SA in Brisbane.

Bunny was voted best player by the Qld players and Jenno by the WA players.

Result: WA2 2 - QLD4 1

Semi-final - WA2 vs SA - Thursday, October 11, 2007

We started the game without Guy, who suffered an injury in the previous game warmup. Luckliy Andrew Rahim was available to fill in for us as a replacement keeper.

Although we started well and had our chances, we dropped our intensity just before half time and SA scored a field goal with just 2 minutes to go.

We started the 2nd half extremely well and penetrated the SA defence countless times. A five minute purple patch culminating in great field goals from Colin and Bruce ensured our passage to the final vs QLd 3.

Best player voted by SA and WA was Bruce Taylor.

Result: WA2 2 - SA 1

Final - WA2 vs QLD3 - Saturday, October 13, 2007

Bridesmaids for the 2nd year running. Whilst we dominated in patches we simply did not convert our opportunities into goals again. Qld got a very doubtful goal mid way through the first half, and whilst we always looked like equalising, it was not realised. Although we were disappointed at the outcome, we were comfortable with the fact that everyone put in a 100%.

Best player voted by the WA team was Colin.

Result: WA2 0 - QLD3 1
