WA 35's - Day 1 THU Oct 1, 2009 - NEWS

After a well deserved rest and a morning stroll (for some players this included a visit to the local Op-Shop where some fabulous items were purchased) the O35’s activities consisted of some grocery shopping, players home work, picking up some latecomers from airport and a training session at the fantastic Tasmanian Hockey Centre. After some diner and a fines meeting in which a fair amount of money was collected, the players got some necessary shut eye before the first game of the Tournament at 11 am against ACT.

WA 35's - Day 6 TUES Oct 6, 2009 - NEWS

After 4 days of full on hockey we were looking forward to 2 days off. Today we tackled a completely different opponent, the Tasmanian weather. The team left at 9 am after hosting the 60’s for dinner the night before (and some of us tested our singing abilities in one of the 40’s rooms with “Sing Star”), to go on a wild ride with Huon Speed Boats.

Upon arrival the weather was amazing and provided some great picture moments. Armed with life jackets and big ponchos, we jumped in the speed boat for some sightseeing and some serious action. The promised full throttle 360’s woke everyone up, well and truly and with the beautiful scenery around us the day could not get much better, especially for Pauline who ended up in the drivers lap during one nasty 360+.

However, the weather decided to give us a little intro on what it can do to some unexpecting WA tourists. Sun turned into rain, rain turned into snow and snow turned into hail. With a steady speed of about 60 km/h (only interrupted by the numerous 360’s), the ponchos provided some protection but our faces were getting a fair bashing and we slowly turned into wet icicles.

The 35 minute rides in these circumstances was quite enough for the team and when back on land the hot coffees and chicken soup quickly heated up frozen body parts.

Next thing on the list was the Sheep Cheese Farm, located in Woodbridge where we tasted some fabulous cheeses and where apparently they have pink painted horses, spotted by Cid (they may have been donkeys!)

Then it was time for some lunch at Peppermint Bay, a lovely restaurant overlooking the bay and the food was fantastic. Anything left on plates was quickly disposed of by our 2 team “garbage bins”, our skinny strikers.

The scenic route back to the units was beautiful and a great day was had by all. Tonight we can look forward to a team gathered for pizzas and team Trivia.

Tomorrow we have another rest day coming up which will be filled with recovery, watching hockey and getting ready for the next game against Queensland.
